Frequently Asked Questions

Will this part have problems with heat?

No, we have done a lot of testing on this issue and there are no conflicts with heat. The new gas tube maintains a much lower temperature then the sheet metal original. There is also room for air to circulate inside the tube which aids in keeping it cool. Feel free to watch Pt. 2 of the video of the first generation which utilizes the same concept.

Won’t the gap create a loss of gas and make the rifle unable to function?

No, the Kalashnikov has an impulse acting gas system. This means that the gun could actually cycle without a gas tube on the rifle. The gas tube is there to protect the piston and guide the piston into the gas block.

Do I have to worry about keeping my hands out of the way?

No, this model is non-reciprocating so you can hold on to the handle while the rifle is cycling in firing mode. The charging handle is static.

I have a left side folding stock on my AK, can I still use this modification?

Yes, the stock is far enough away from the handle making it very convenient to charge the firearm.

I have a left side scope mount on my AK, can I still use this modification?

Yes, this modification is perfect for the use of a left side optics mount.

Do I need to replace any parts on my gun?

All you need to replace is the gas tube. The new gas tube comes in this package and contains a slide and bolt handle. You do not need to replace any other parts.

Do I need to modify my piston?

No, no modification is required to your piston except the placement of a sleeve that comes in this package. No gun smithing is required.

Do I have to remove my existing charging handle?

No, many users choose to because it allows them to charge there firearm with the safety engaged but this is entirely up to the operator.

Will this modification hinder field stripping?

With the system installed you can remove all parts except the gas tube and the carrier. This modification requires that the top half be removed to take the sleeve off the piston in order to remove the carrier. The carrier can still be pulled out and the bolt can be removed.

Does this require any permanent modification to my rifle?

No, The Ratchet Charging System is installed very easily and is a drop in kit. No permanent modification is necessary.
